Retrieve a string configuration value into a character array.

The returned pointer may be: * a pointer that is valid for the lifetime of the execution context, or

a pointer to the supplied value buffer, or
default_value, if no value is configured.

Exceptions

std::out_of_range: Thrown if the configured value is too long for the supplied buffer.
